This is more than a relief for me to know that I'm not alone in this condition:)I mistakenly just came across this website, and I'm glad I did. and all this comments relating to my situation.
I am a 20 year old male. I remember when I was about 9yrs old, my mum always tells me its normal to sweat as much as I do, but deep down in me I knew it wasn't.

I don't sweat on my palms, armpit, nor other parts of my body, just on my face(head) and neck. I've been sweating for as long as I can remember. I'm even sweating right now as I'm typing.

its much harder on me as I'm based here in Africa Cameroon/Nigeria. my parents are Nigerians, but I was born and have spent most part of my life in Cameroon. I don't have to mention how hot it is here. and worst of all, the limited availability of electricity. back at our family house, I got a fan specially designed for me. it is very portable and saves power too. it also uses batteries:)

life for me has always been dramatic. I remember back in the days when I was in College. we used to have "general morning assemblies" on Mondays and Fridays, where roll calls were done and the principle points out one or two things.

I was more than popular due to my sweating habit. I was a center of attention. the worst of all was that vapor went off my hair when I sweat excessively in the morning. when the vapor was noticed by others, my life became miserable. I was called all sorts of names: "chimney, fireman, smoke head.... etc. I love social activities, partying, dancing, strolling and I'm a good athlete too. but I always give one excuse or the other when any of such opportunities come up, because I know quite well what will happen.

when my dad took me to the hospital, after checkup, the doctor was talking about my sweat pores being excessively wide, and says it isn't any problem. so my parents took the words of the doctor. but even as a kid, deep down in me, I reckoned the doctor can't be right. sweat pores being extra wide can't be the cause the kind of pressure and heat I feel inside before the sweating begins.

I can't mention all the extreme things I did just to keep cool. I moved about with a little ice box in my bag. I crush the ice before placing in the ice box. when the sweating starts getting out of hand, I'll immediately opt to use the the bathroom. when I get to the bathroom, I take out some of the ice and chew, and then put some in a handkerchief and massage my face. it helps for a few minutes, and after that, I'm back to the bathroom again.

at a certain point, I really thought I was cursed or maybe going through hell, as one of my friends said hell and heaven is within us.
it got to a point when I started thinking life isn't worth living. but thank God I have a friend who talked me out of such thoughts.

so, I made it a priority to find out what I'm suffering from and will do anything to get cured.

I may not be able to say 1/10 of what I go though everyday just to keep up, but I keep praying for divine intervention. lord please help me out, this cross is too much for me to bear.
anyone out there with a solution or remedy to this, please share.

Good article to point it down to the sympathetic nervous system. Will take my time to go through all the comments but here my quick take on it. I ll be to the point:

1) It seems to be genetic and could rather be related to Psychological reasons triggered by malfunctioning glands.

2) the adrenal gland/pituitary might be playing an important role as well as they are involved in triggering Fight or Flee reaction. One of the side effects of Adrenal surge in the blood stream is excessive perspiration as the body temperature and pressure goes up.

3) In these patients the fight or flee response might be getting triggered by the smallest or challenges or something that our sub conscience would perceive as a threat, something like facing an audience or social situations.

4) These people might have been sexually precocious!

5) The underline reason might be a GAD ie generalized anxiety disorder where in an individual will get subconsciously stressed too easily and excessively with any day to day situation and that would trigger a fight or flee response internally ending up in a pulsating heart beat, hight body temperature, high BP and excessive facial perspiration. ( not sure why this triggers facial perspiration in particular)

6) Antidepressants were able to take care of the GAD to a certain extent in my case.

Beta blockers: And on addition I started taking a beta blocker about an hour before any socially stressful event eg some function or giving a presentation etc that took care of the physical symptoms such as palpitations and the perspiration. What beta blocker does is that it blocks the Adernaline to get released in the blood stream and thus checks the symptoms. My personal experience is that propranolol is more effective that anything else and its effect for a 40mg cap stays for approximately 4 hours.

Antianxiety pills like ativan, lonazep etc can give a temporary relief from the nervousness. However then need to be taken strictly under medical supervision as they can get addictive within no time.

Quick fix: Drink alcohol: It appears to drastically decrease anxiety and perspiration (till you are drunk, though it might trigger a rebound once you are done) . however its just a quick but temporary fix and cant be used in general situations on regular basis and might end up triggering dependency. So don't rely on it for a permanent cure.

7) The above 4 are only symptomatic treatments. If you want to get over it from the core there are 2 suggestions:

7.1) Cognitive treatment: It modifies the way you perceive a situation to be threatening and to alter the response. You can contact your Pcyco Doc for that or there are a few good programs available online as well to curb generalized anxiety as well as social anxiety.

7.2) YOGA: There are several exercises, pranayams (breath exercises) and meditations to strengthen your nervous system in general and to regulate your pituitary in particular to balance the functioning of all the other glands and hormones. Seeks a qualified yoga teacher, else check online but double check to find a genuine source.

8) About me: I was a typical under confident, self conscious, introverted, jittery, excessively nervous, shy, non-social perspiring recluse through growing up stage. Now I have stabilized with medical, cognitive and yoga treatment and currently working as a manager to some 60 odd chaps. My work includes active socializing, giving extempore speeches, attending meetings, giving presentations, taking training, attending con calls etc with no more anxiety or excessive perspiration.

If you need more info on this or need the links/ medicines I followed plz contact me at tranquility19.5@gmail.com and I will send it to you with pleasure. However, please contact a trained psychiatric before trying anything out other that yoga. :)

I too suffer from excessive facial, neck, back and chest sweating. The slightest temperature change and that is it - the sweats starts to pour. I have found drinking cold water and air flow to be the biggest cure, although the Dr’s have prescribed me Xanax and Antidepressants to calm my nerves. I hate the feeling I get when I am in a room or place where no one else is sweating and I’m the only sweating. Being a law enforcement officer it greatly affects me as I have to deal with the public and victims of crime, how embarrassing when I am liaising with these people and the sweat starts to flow. I need a permanent cure. I thought I was the only one to suffer from this, it’s good to see it is more common than I thought.

I found this website by accident today and am so glad I did!!
Since I am at work, I dont have time to read all these comments now, but I too suffer from excessive head, scalp, face & neck sweating and no one is helping me. My physician sent me to a dermatologist who told me to put deodarent in my scalp at night. Yeah right!!! I am 65 years old and my mother who is 90 has the same problem. We are canadians. I must have inherited it from her. I have to get a solution for this!! I have to dry my hair with a hair blower at least 3 times every morning before I leave for work. I wear a sweat band when I do housework. I just came back from Mexico and wore a sweat band 24/7 while I was there! HOPE I CAN FIND A SOLUTION BY READING YOUR COMMENTS!! I NEED HELP BADLY!!

Last thing id like to add is the medicine glycopylorrate is a prescription
drug here in the US you have two options one go to doctor tell her about your condition and request glycopylorrate but if you cant go to doctor because u dont feel comfortable and it becomes a vicious cycle because you have to see the doctor for the med but without the med you dont want to go in ive been there OR option two order the glycopyrrolate from canada where it is not considered a prescription the site is pharmacy.ca it is based in canada but they will ship here it is also legit website the website has a certified pharmacy building store i ordered my glycopyrrolate from there because my doctor wanted me to all kinds of tests so i went ahead and got my meds online the prices are decent but i know most ppl wont mind paying a little extra for to live a normal life im goin to warn everybody tho to order large amounts because if i dont take it i sweat and it takes foreveerrr to deliver.

Glycopyllorate look it up because it worked. I told myself i would write a post here if the
medicine worked for me i have hyperhidrosis excessive sweating on my face since everybody is different and this may not work for everyone ill provide some details about myself iv had this condition my whole life but only recently realized it was a medical condition three years ago. Like most my excessive sweating is triggered only in public and by analyzing when and where i sweat i found insight about myself for example i only sweat profusively on my face when i am in a stressfull situation. It doesnt matter what the temperature is cold or warm i sweat the same i start sweating if attention is on me or if i am talking to a hot girl and i feel unsure of myself i used to think it was social anxiety that made me sweat and tried sa meds such as xanex and mdma even though they help i didnt like having to depend on meds that fuck with my mental process but i later found out the cause of my social anxiety was actually caused by my hyperhidrosis not the other way around i am anxious in social situation because i am always worried about sweat pouring off my face like a waterfall whenever i begin to sweat from the face i feel a rush of heat like my body just got real hot real quick and then the sweating starts as soon as i feel sweat beads on my head i start sweating more so the sweat just potentiates itself in a dreaded loop i sweat because i know im sweating. After taking 4.5 mg of glycopyrrolate it doesnt happen i still get the rush of heat internally but now that doesnt translate to sweat if i take 3 mg i only sweat on my nose if i take 4.5 i dont even sweat at all now i can handle stressful situations and talk to people and hot girls without sweating balls and looking like an idiot because of my condition i tend to avoid people and social situations but now that i dont sweat like i used to i can begin to do and enjoy things i want to do this drug to me is a godsend for me on a scale of 1 thru 10 xanex was a 7 mdma(street bought) was 7.5 but glycopyrrolate is a definite 10 no question. The side effects are mild first day on 4.5 mg made my mouth ungodly dry and i felt that when i exerted myself the heat builted up but by the third week 4.5 was perfect the side effects were basically non existent my mouth wasnt dry only my lips and wen i do sweat i sweat NORMALLY and thats when i am working out i know from reading alot of the post that most if not all of you couldnt care less about the mild side effects versus the drugs ability to let u live a normal lifestyle so give it a try. On a side note i have mild hyperhydrosis on my hands to 3mg takes care of that without any side effects.

After five years of being miserable my doctor is finally seeing this as a problem. Mine may be caused by a medication he has taken me off of (Metoprolol) and I pray he's right. I'm 55 and well pass menopause. I've actually had store clerks and customers offer to call an ambulance for me. My hair gets soaking/dripping wet. My face is cherry red. People move away from me like I'm sick or some kind of druggie going through withdrawals. Yes, I actually had a store manager state that to me, never mind I'm well dressed carrying a lace handkerchief. My friends think I'm making too much of it. Thank all you kind people for sharing -your stories. I'm sorry you're suffering this too but grateful to know there are others who understand and appreciate how much this ruins your day to day living. Good luck everyone.

I am only 22. I have been sweating profusely since I was 2nd grade. And it's nit just a little bit of sweat. I am on my colleges debate and speech team. I wear suits almost every weekend. After about an hour, even my suit jacket is soaking wet. I have to make sure I wear clothes that don't shownsweat easily. Such as blacks, dark drowns, dark blues. I almost never get to wear bright colors like I love. And it doesn't get better in winter. I sweat when it's 20 outside and snowing. I sweat while waiting to shower, during the shower and after it. I get almost no relief. It gets so bad that I have to make sure there is a fan or a clear shot to a bathroom everywhere I go. I am not
Super obese, either. I have some fluff but my weight mostly comes from my height and my size from my bone structure. (I'm extremely barrel chested naturally and have thicker bones than most men do.) My two real vices in life are soft drinks (I am addicted to soda!) and salty foods, like olives and pickles.

I can't believe there are so many people suffering from the same disease as me! I had this illness since birth (now my 3yr old cousin has it too, when he jump around, he sweats on the whole hair and forehead, neck and back just like me) I did a research a year ago on wikipedia after knowing what the disease is called, and they didn't provide much help, stating that it only affects 1/1million people, I am 23 and I dare tell you I have not met a single person who sweats more than me! (except for my baby cousin because he is suffering the same thing as me!) Today I went out with this girl, I sweated profusely in the arcade when she talked to me! My face flushed and I barely paid any attention to her due to being dizzy and worrying about the embarassment! Despite standing below the very cold a/c, I can only try taking small slow breaths while she is not noticing, applying everything I learnt like, thinking calmly, not caring what people think/say, and hoping for the time to go home! Dates are suppose to be fun, but not for us!
