Wow! I cannot believe all of the comments! My daughter was watching a show on MTV where a teenage girl suffered from hyperhidrosis. My daughter said "mom we must have that!" I have suffered from excessive sweating since I was a teen. It has been terrible! It doesn't matter if it's 30 degrees outside, I sweat. I sweat in my hands, feet, armpits and even my lower back! I have ruined silk shirts and cannot wear silk for 5 minutes without sweating thru it. I get so embarrassed because I sweat all of the time even when I'm not nervous. However, it gets even worse if I get nervous and even when I meet new people! I'm not nervous when I meet new people, so I don't know why I sweat even more...I can't explain it! I hate it soooooo much! I have talked to my Dr. and she just said that it was healthy to sweat and that's it! I was so aggrevated! I didn't even know that there was a name for this condition nor did I know that there were treatments for it! I'm so glad I saw this website and I am going to try some of the non-surgical treatments first.

Hi All,

I never read this blog before but recently have come across a solution that I wanted to share it with someone. First off, I am 33 years old and I have never had an underarm sweat issue and out of no where, it happened. Maybe within 3 minutes of putting on a shirt (i wear nothing but 100% cotton), there would be dampness. I could even be cold, it just did not matter. I tried maybe 8 different deodorants and nothing worked. Just over a week ago, I checked out some blogs and forums (like this one)and heard people talk about Certain Dri and some other brand. Well, I bought Certain Dri (The roll on one not the morning stick) and I appear to be 100% cured. I am wearing a thick sweater right now and I feel like I could jog a mile and still not get damp in the pit area. My specific experience is as follows.

Day 1. I used the Certain Dri the night before (you are supposed to always use it right before bed. You can shower in the morning and soap the heck out of your pits and you will not wash it off) and I went a 1/2 w/o problems but then got a pit mark. I did a little more research and found that some people still use regular deodorant in the morning so I tried that (small amount) and I was 100% dry on day 2
Day 3-4: 100% dry all day but I got really itchy late in the evening and in both cases, it happened right after taking off my shirt, as if the air caused it.
Day 5-7: 100% Dry and no itch

Note, I heard that the Certain dri might take a couple of days for it to work so I might not need the regular deodorant in the morning but I plan to continue to use it, why fix something that is not broken.

Finally, as you will read in the instructions, only use a little bit. I used too much on day 1. You literally need 2 swipes max, even if you feel like you have more surface area to cover. This is my first blog ever and I hope this helps someone

Cranial sweating and redness. What has helped me a lot is a combination of a few things, namely , Inderal and Ditropan. If you havent tried it I suggest you check with a doctor first and then let him/her give you the above mentioned drugs. Start with the weakest strength. I am using 10 mg Inderal and 2.5 mg Ditopan, once a day only, works like a charm so far. Ofcourse botox and laser treatments can also be used inbetween. Will see how I continue to react, but so far so good.

Hi,
I've been looking for an answer for years. My face sweats when I eat. I do not have to eat anything spicy, just eat. My doctor said it's just that it's spicy and I don't think it is??!! It's worse if I eat tomato sauces, or cheese based items. The funny thing is, I can eat spaghetti sauce cold, and I don't sweat. Any help would be soooo appreciated!!

Here's something no-one has mentioned. All through school, uni and until my mid-30's I had a horrible time with armpit sweating, regardless of weather or anxiety. i used to have double sets of clothes so i could change during the day, and it stopped me from pursuing a career as a pianist; the sweating would stain my clothes right to my waist, and took over my enjoyment of life. Then i spoke to a doctor who referred me for surgery; this is a long time ago and I'm sure it would be a simpler procedure now. I actually had the top layer of skin containing the sweat glands cut out from under my arms. The operation was unpleasant and it took a while to get the full use of my arm movement back, and I have bizarre scarring under my arms, BUT IT WORKED! About 2 months later I auditioned for a postgraduate course in piano accompaniment and the rest, as they say, is ancient history!

Botox injections are not that unpleasant, are EXTREMELY safe (no negative response yet seen by me or any other doctor I know- the box label lists side effects but we all never have seen any?- presuming an appropriate DR, P-A or RN that have been through the relatively simple required training are performing the procedure. My office has treated so many people(hands, feet, underarms) and most TOTALLY stop sweating for a full year. A few have results for 6 months and prefer to re-inject as soon as any sweating returns. We charge $1000.00 (maybe 950? not positive) for 100 units of botox. I assume other doctors charge a similar amount. Some patients (about 30%) have their insurance cover it. My mom has hyperhydrosis of the head and neck- the reason I'm surfing these blog sites- as it is harder to treat- and she can't take the anti-cholinergic drugs (oxybutinin) due to another medical condition. impossible to spread the botox around that large of a surface area within the appropriate dose range(though I may try one time with a very dilute amount)-the drug needs to spread around all areas right under the skin surface using thin needles - so easier for smaller areas like hands feet and underarms.)I'll likely give her some sedation for that many injections- Surgery and the drugs mentioned are used for all-over or head and neck sweating. they work often very well, but not always. Botox is by far the most reliable- never fails actually, in my experience- Generally all patients hate the strong antiperspirants- as they sting, and stain clothing also. I hope this helps- I really feel for people with this difficult condition :)

The Revolution is looking for women in the Tri-State area with sweat problems!

Have you noticed an unpleasant increase in the amount you sweat? Could it be due to weight gain? Pregnancy? Menopause? Or stress? Does it cause embarrassing stains or frequent clothing changes? Do you wear dark colors to hide wet spots? Do you shy away from form fitting clothes because it makes you sweat more?

Do your new sweating issue make you feel self-conscious and avoid social settings? Do you feel like you can't wear your old clothes anymore?

If this sounds like you and you'd love help choosing clothes that are sweat friendly and fashionable, style guru Tim Gunn: Official Page and The Revolution want to hear from you.

Only those who are willing to share their story and transformation on national television, should respond. Please EMAIL: casting@the-revolution.com and write "Chronic Sweater" in the subject line. Include a photo and a brief description of your sweating issues.

I have had sweaty hands and feet all my life. I am 61 and it has affected every part of my life. It was very hard as a child being teased and ridiculed for something I could do nothing about. I inherited this from my mother and my sister also has the problem. Several years ago I went to a urologist for kidney stones,he prescribed oxybutynin. I noticed that while taking this pill my hands and feet no longer were sweating, amazing! I asked at my next visit if this was something I could continue to take and he said yes. I played with the dosage and found that just 1 5mg pill a day did the trick for me. Alas, I am now down to my last 2 months supply and so I asked my dermatologist about it, so far he has said it isn't something he is comfortable in prescribing for me but promised to look into it further. No one knows how wonderful it was for me to have that urologist prescribe it for me....my life is just so much more normal...I just have to find a way to get more. Isn't it such a simple thing to ask for? I still sweat every where else just not in my hands and feet. I will keep on trying until I find someone to prescribe this for me again. No health insurance or I would certainly go back to my urologist for this and my kidney stones.
